SHADING
|
|
The young tree of durian, rambutan,
lanzones and mangosteen require shading especially
during summer as the leaves are easily scorched by the
sun's heat. Nurse tree like neem tree, kakawate, and
banana can be planted in between the trees to serve as
shade. During the rainy season, however, the shade trees
should be pruned so as not to cover the cultivars
completely

WINDBREAKS
Planting windbreakers trees is very beneficial
particularly if your are is prone to typhoon. It will
protect the trees from the damage as a strong wind may
cause.
Windbreaker trees should be compatible with the
cultivars planted and should not shade trees that need
full sunlight. Neem tree are ideal windbreakers which
can be top-pruned to avoid excessive shading. Planting
mahogany around the perimeter competes with fruit trees
in absorbing water and nutrients, thus should not be
planted very closely to the cultivars. Bamboo is also
not an ideal windbreaker because it makes the soil
acidic and shades the trees.
