INTERCROPPING |
|
To
maximize every space in the farm, you can plant compatible
trees in between major crops. Carabao mangoes can be
distanced at 12 x 12 meters. In between, you can plant
Magallanes Davao pummelo. As per experience, if you will
earn P1,000 per tree from Carabao mango, and P3,000 to
P5,000 per Magallanes Davao pummelo tree.
Coconut trees in Southern Luzon can be intercropped with
lanzones,
durian,
rambutan and
mangosteen. These cultivars
need shades. They can also be planted in between big mango
trees. |

Bernie
Dizon's orchard cooperator in Tarlac planted
Chokanan honey
mango, Magallanes and Nenita pummelo at a
distance of 5 x 5
meters. The imported mango and pummelo are planted
alternately. Both varieties are responsive to pruning in
case there is overcrowding. In between the space, watermelon
and vegetables are also planted, thus, there is no wasted
area in the farm.
In
Dizon's showcase at Wildlife,
rambutan, mangosteen and
durian are planted close to each other with apple
macopa and
mahogany as shade trees. These trees are compatible with
each other thus all are fruiting well. In between the trees,
grafted mangosteen can still be planted 2-3 meters away from
the existing tree. |
