Telesforo Umali and his physician wife Paula live in a
little paradise in Quezon City.
They
have converted their front and backyard into a fruitful
orchard where they grow outstanding selections of rambutan,
seedless lychee, Thai durian, mangosteen, macopa and some
other plants, including orchids which produce flowers for
sale.
Last month, the Umalis got a bountiful harvest of their
Umali rambutan No.1. They sold some at the Agrikapihan which
was a big hit.
What's notable about their fruit trees is that they are
grown on what they call grow on three rootstocks. The three
root-stocks make the tree grow faster and bear fruit more
profusely.
The Umalis are also asexually propagating their
outstanding plants to sale to interested buyers.
